Coitus interruptus is thought to be the oldest and most common method of contraception, but this method is most unreliable.
Coitus interruptus means that the man withdraws his penis from the vagina shortly before reaching sexual climax. Ejaculation takes place outside the vagina to prevent pregnancy.

When to take a pill?
Pill should be taken on a full stomach. That is why bed time is the best time for it. This also makes it regular habit easy to remember.
What is to be done if pill is missed?
Regularity is the most important aspect which ensures total safety. But if pill is missed on a particular day the missed tablet should betaken as soon as possible i.e. two tablets on the next day, one in the morning and one in the evening.
But missed on several occasions husband should use condom in addition upto the onset of the next menstruation.
How long the pill can be used?
The pill can be used continuously for 5 years without break. If the husband is going away for more than 3 months the use of the pill can be stopped. But if he is going for shorter duration there is no need to stop the pill.
When the couple wants to have a child the pill should be discontinued after completing the full pack otherwise early bleeding due to withdrawl may start.
When pill should not be taken?
If a woman
is pregnant
has diabetes
had jaundice during last six months
has cancer of the breast or of genital organs
is a nursing mother with less than three months old child
is over 35 years of age and suffering from higher blood pressure, heart disease etc.
Does the use of pill affect child bearing?
There are no adverse effects of the oral contraceptives on later child bearing but chances of conception for 3 months after stopping pills are less. It may reduce breast milk volume and duration of lactation.
